The 2016-17 Parent-Student Handbook is available on our website (handbook). Please take some time to read the handbook.
Did you know you can earn money for CICS Bucktown just by doing your normal shopping? All you have to do is download the Shoparoo Fundraising app. Whenever you shop at any store save your receipt and upload it to the app. The money you spend turns into money for Bucktown! Start uploading!
Box Tops: Did you know that if everyone at Bucktown collected 40 box tops a month we would raise $28,000 that month?!?! The homeroom that collects the most box tops for the months of August and September will earn A FREE DRESS DOWN DAY!
Order school uniforms at http://www.chicagocsu.com/. To avoid the $7.99 delivery fee, ask for your order to be sent to the school. The uniform company will be at Bucktown every week to distribute orders to parents who have requested a school pick up. Uniforms not picked up will remain with the uniform company and will be available for pick up from the uniform company at school the following week. Please note that all K-5 students will have gym 1-2 times a week all year. Middle school students are required to have one gym uniform and will receive their schedules in August.
We MUST treat our Bucktown neighbors with respect and we have to ensure safety at all times around our school. We must remain calm and safe around all areas of the school by driving slowly and patiently. We never want anything to happen to any of our students and we are expecting the support from every single parent in making our traffic better in the safest ways possible.
Attendance is VERY important! As you know, CPS rates our school based on various factors. One major rating is around our school attendance. In order for us to go from great to excellent, we need to have students at school on time so they are learning as much as possible. Please support us in ensuring your child is at school every day and on time. If your child is absent, it is very important to have a medical note to excuse the absence.
Safety First. PLEASE do not use the alley off of Leavitt or any of the other alleys around school. It is not safe for our students and upsets our neighbors. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Late Fees: NEW $1 per minute LATE PICKUP POLICY is being strictly enforced. Families will be charged $1 a minute for every minute after the 15 minute period for dismissals.
Outside Food Policy – If you’d like to bring food to share in a classroom, please read the attached letter regarding the outside food policy. Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher with any questions.
What’s Cookin’? Menus are posted on our website. FREE breakfast and lunch is available for all Bucktown students!
Please remember that students are dismissed at 1:00pm EVERY Wednesday. There are NO more 11:30am dismissals this year.
NO PARKING in the staff parking lot, pick-up zones, or crosswalks around the school. Your cooperation is essential for the safety of our students and staff. It will also make dismissals faster for everyone. We appreciate your patience!

We are so honored and excited to celebrate our Dean of Students, Bryan Jackson! He was selected as part of an elite group to be awarded the Surge Fellowship for 2017. The Surge Institute is actively working to change the face of educational reform, and we are thrilled to celebrate this opportunity for Bryan and the entire Bucktown community!
Surge Institute was founded in 2014, in response to a dearth of leadership of color at the decision-making tables within education reform. Surge provides leadership development resources to individuals to create a pipeline of diverse leaders in education.
The Surge Fellowship, the Institute’s signature program, is described to identify and groom emerging talent in education, and provide them with leadership development as well as access to networks and visibility, empowering them to bring new ideas, perspectives, and solutions that change the landscape of education. To learn more about the Surge Institute, explore their website here, or follow them on Twitter here!
